Speaking at the MLA BeefUp Day on Wednesday, Tim Driver managing director Precision Pastoral and Sally Leigo project research leader said data from a Remote Livestock Management System (RLMS) used on properties such as AACO’s Dalgonally near Julia Creek can identify, weigh and draft animals without on-site labour.
Cattle are trained over three weeks to walk through a solar-powered gate system which transmits live weight data to support profitable beef management decisions
Mr Driver said training was achieved through understanding cattle behaviour, low-stress stock handling and yard design.
The system is complemented by Etrend software which uses satellite technology to collect and transmit pasture data which is matched with the live weight data from the RLMS.
The system collects pasture yield, weather information and Normalised Difference Vegetation Index data.
