The new committee has worked hard to get this year’s show up and running and were rewarded with good crowds through the gates at Buchanan Park for the Buffs Club Mount Isa Show.
After a one year gap, it was good to see a packed arena of horse events in showjumping, galloway, hack and the other equine competitions.
Horse steward Kyam Loney said they had events to suit all riders ages and styles.
“We have the showjumping ring, two hack rings, in-hand and showmanship classes, a dressage ring, sporting events, and working horse classes,” Ms Loney said.
“We have judges travelling from Cairns and Charters Towers to judge the classes.”
The official opening of the show took place on Friday night in the Kalkadoon arena ahead of the PBR.
William Blackley did the welcome to Kalkadoon country and the Kalkatunga dancers did their last public performance in Mount Isa before heading to the Laura Dance Festival in Cape York this weekend.
State member for Mount Isa Robbie Katter and Mount Isa City Council Mayor Joyce McCulloch both praised the committee and volunteers for their hard work in getting this years show up and running.
“Mount Isa has been through some hard times but there’s good times ahead,” Mr Katter said.
Meanwhile the Mayor said she was looking forward to the action in the arena.
“I’m looking forward to the PBR and cowboys that have travelled to this event , but more importantly the bulls, they are my favourite part of the PBR,” Cr McCulloch said.
The official opening was done by two veterans of the Mount Isa scene, Anne and Arthur Morris assisted by the two showgirl contestants Tahlia Cook and Danielle Hilton.
Show president Jesse Rosenthal said he was delighted by how well the show came together and he thanked everyone who was involved in making it happen and he also thanked the sponsors with the Buffs Club getting the naming rights to the show.
“It’s great to see everyone here at the Mount Isa Show,” Mr Rosenthal said.
Mr Rosenthal then praised the two showgirl contestants before awarding Danielle Hilton the title of Miss Mount Isa Show Showgirl 2017.
The Show was a mix of old favourites such as the pavilion competitions, the bronco branding and Luke’s Reptile Kingdom along with new attractions such as the Bubble Muffin cooking show, dinosaur show and Mount Isa’s Got Talent show.
