Rob Eade, 71, and his faithful dog Ginge are on “Remembrance Ride Oz” laying flags at memorial sites for fallen veterans in the Vietnam War to current conflicts.
Mr Eade served in the Australian Defence Force for 21 years (1965-1986) with one year’s service in Vietnam (1969-70) and has been on the road for 18 months riding his motorised trike towing a small trailer around Australia and expect to finish his crusade in WA mid this year.
Mr Eade said wherever he goes he places a small hand-held Australian flag with the detail of service personnel of those who died in the Vietnam war through to the current conflicts in the town of their birth.
On Saturday morning (February 24) at the Cenotaph Mr Eade will commemorate the two Mount Isa-born men who died in Vietnam.
They are Malcolm Ross McConachy (died February 8, 1969) and Timo Esko Antero Pesonen (died February 28, 1970).
Mr Eade will make a short speech and will lay two small flags to commemorate the two men.
The ceremony will commence at 11am sharp.
You can follow Rob and Ginge’s adventures on the Remembrance Ride Oz Facebook page.
