School of the Air students live on remote properties across Queensland and the Northern Territory so it’s important that they have access to an adopt-a-cop.
Adopt-a-Cop are dedicated police officers who are chosen for their special skills and ability to build positive relationships between police and members of the school community.
They deliver personal safety information to students and become part of the school community.
“Important safety messages for all children include staying safe when using the internet, do you know the person that you are chatting to online, and how to protect your personal details and digital footprint are topics we discuss,” Constable Bowie said.
The Mount Isa School of the Air built their adopt-a-cop a special presentation and introductions to the student leadership committee were held via on-air radio with Constable Bowie.
“I had the opportunity to listen to their ideas,” he said, “and think they would make fantastic police officers.”
Currently there are over 950 Adopt-a-Cops performing duties in over 1100 Queensland schools.
