The national theme for the year ‘Raise Your Voice’ aimed to give youth the opportunity to do just that and that’s exactly what Mount Isa did as they were treated to a spectacular performance of song and dance.
Ruffo sang his 2015 hit ‘She got that O’, along with cover songs from artists like Bruno Mars. Event Coordinator Trish Macnamara said Ruffo was the young people’s first choice.
“The crowd loved him, it was so rewarding to see them all up and dancing,” Ms Macnamara said.
As well as the main act there was some impressive Mount Isa talent on display with the Eukaladies, DiLi dancers, Cath Purcell and DJ Ricky to name a few playing throughout the afternoon.
“I was so pleased to have our local talent showcased. The Eukaladies had performed at the Eisteddfod but this was the first time they have done a huge public performance,” Ms Macnamara said.
The Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative held a competition in the newly renovated skatepark on Thursday afternoon and the winners were announced during the evening.
ASCI skaters, Dex and Mooney said the winner of the under 16 contest was Bailey Hetherington.
“We also had another category for open challenges and the winner was Tom Kelland,” Mooney said.
A variety of stalls were set up throughout the parkland offering temporary tattoos, guess the ‘eggxact’ amount of Easter eggs, a painting and drawing tent and lots more. Food stalls and fairy floss were a treat for the younger ones with the lineups ten-deep at times.
Headspace were successful in receiving a community grant from first time sponsors Glencore MIM and were happy to welcome back previous sponsors to this years event.
Ms Macnamara thanked all the sponsors whose hard work did not go unnoticed in the lead up to the event and during it.
