During first break on Wednesday 16 May, Spinifex State College, Senior Campus Student Leaders and Support Teachers put together a fundraiser for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the event called “Strive to be Kind Day” was carnival theme with popcorn and hotdogs for sale and carnival theme games to play.

Bianca Lugo, Senior Campus Youth Support Coordinator said events like this are important because it allows Chaplain Les and I to have valuable conversations with students around this issue.
“It also lets students know that they have a support system in us and the community,” Ms Lugo said.
Mob FM were in attendance dropping tunes and interviewing students about Domestic Violence Awareness.
MOB FM are very active at the Senior Campus and the students view them as positive community role models.
Centacare were also onsite to assist with some activities and connect with students.
Centacare have a regular involvement with the students at Senior Campus as they run programs such as the High School Support Program and Reconnect which assists students to engage in school.
“They are often on campus building rapport with students to break the stigma that it’s not okay to seek help.”
Through joint efforts $223.50 was raised during the lunch break, this money will go to the Allison Baden-Clay Foundation.
Allison Baden-Clay was a murder victim of domestic violence and her sister started the foundation to educate others on domestic violence prevention across Australia.
