With a crowd of around 100 senior citizens clapping and waving their arms in the air, Tom Jones and the Divas took to the stage singing hits from the legend himself, Dusty Springfield and Dolly Parton.
Ernie Stevenson was in attendance and said he thoroughly enjoyed the morning.
“It was very entertaining with some of my favourite songs being sung,” Mr Stevenson said.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the morning tea is a tradition held several time per year, and is a way to recognise and honour the contributions made to the community by our senior citizens.
In a touching speech Cr McCulloch said she tries to tell her dad every day that he is one of the most relevant people in her life, just like each and every one of you here today.
“I love the senior’s morning teas we have each year and how special they are because sometimes in life, it doesn't matter who you are, you can get to a point where you think – am I really important and I want to tell you from my heart that you are.
“You all are the pioneers of Mount isa and have contributed greatly to our city. We, as a Council, really appreciate you and I hope that we do enough for our seniors.
Cr McCulloch reached out to the crowd by asking them if there's something they are not doing as a Council and you think that we can do, come and talk to us.
