Mount Isa Corp officer lieutenant Natalie Steele said although she had been involved with the Salvos in Mount Isa for a while, this was her first time coordinating the Wishing Tree appeal.
“We are excited to be here to pick up our first lot of toys,” Lt Steele said.
The Salvos will pick up from Kmart every week in the lead up to Christmas – this week they picked up 16 toys.
Store Manager Russell Hammelswang said the official cut off date to get your toys in for the appeal is Saturday, December 22.
“Last year we had a lot of generous local Mount Isa businesses donate to help the kids in need so we are hoping they come on board again this year as well,” Mr Hammelswang.

After collection, the toys are sorted then distributed to around 15 agencies in the local Mount Isa area.
Kmart Liz Dowler said the spoils were not too bad for the first week considering it was only mid-November.
“We keep a count of what we are collecting then pass it on to Kmart Head Office, before we give the toys over to the Salvos.,” Ms Dowler said.
