The objective of the operation was to provide an increased presence on rural roads with the aim to reduce road trauma through community engagement, education and enforcement.
Many regional and remote areas are usually connected by a single primary road that does not regularly experience a high police presence so Police officers travelled to Burke and Wills, Normanton, Karumba, Croydon and Georgetown.
The officers engaged in a number of activities including speed enforcement, stationary Roadside Breath and Drug Tests, heavy vehicle intercepts and road safety education aimed at reducing the Fatal Five: Speeding; Failure to wear a seatbelt; Drink and drug driving; Driver distraction and inattention; and Fatigue.
Sergeant Whitney Lacy said a range of offences were detected.
"Speeding, unrestrained drivers and passengers, cancelled registration, unlicensed driving, unaccompanied learner and heavy vehicle work diary offences," Sgt Lacy said.
"The operation certainly achieved the objective with a number of drivers commenting on their surprise at being stopped for a breath test in the middle of nowhere."
Operation Romeo Arcadian will run statewide until Friday May 31.
