Occasionally traffic buzzes by to and from the Duchess Rd to town oblivious to a tragedy that took place here in Friday.
A 26-year-old Ipswich woman lost her life while several others are recovering in hospital after a head-on collision between a car and a ute at 3.30pm on Friday afternoon.
The car driver, Natasha Wilson of Ipswich, was killed outright while her seven-year-old son Mason was taken to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition and two-year-old daughter Amatiel was taken to Mount Isa Hospital.
The driver and passenger of the ute, a 44-year-old man and a 57-year-old man were both transported to Mount Isa Hospital in a stable condition.
The only telltale signs are skidmarks on the road and a sign that warns motorists the area ahead is slippery.
It's not yet known if the slippery conditions were as a result of the crash or what caused it, something police forensic officers will be investigating.
Meanwhile the family of the dead woman is desperately trying to get Natasha and her children home.
Her sister Krystle Wilson has launched a GoFundMe campaign saying Natasha had moved with her partner and children to Mount Isa just before Christmas last year after facing many challenges.
"Natasha was a strong, young woman with a beautiful, bubbly personality," she said.
"(She was) fun and full of life, overcoming many life battles but nothing prepared her for what would happen when her daughter was born.
"After fighting so hard to save her little girl's life through open-heart surgery, sadly Natasha will not be here to watch her little girl grow into a woman and her son who is still in a critical condition pull through this and grow to be a man."
The GoFundMe page wants donations to bring Natasha's body home to be laid to rest close to her family.
"We are asking people to please help us bring Natasha's body home and give this beautiful young woman the burial and send off she deserves and so she can be buried near her family and where her children will be raised," Krystle said.
