Over the last three weeks The North West Star has seen road trains hauling army vehicles and supplies, army personnel driving Rheinmetall trucks and landrovers, and four helicopters fueling up at Cloncurry Airport on Tuesday July 2.
The ADF are travelling through the region bound for Rockhampton for the Talisman Sabre 2019, a training activity uniting Australian and United States army forces focused on the planning and conduct of mid-intensity "high end" warfighting.
Held biennially, the TS19 is designed to practise "military services and associated agencies in planning and conducting Combined and Joint Task Force operations, and improve the combat readiness and interoperability between Australian and US forces".
The event is in its eighth year and will consist of a Field Training Exercise incorporating force preparation (logistic) activities, amphibious landings, land force manoeuvre, urban operations, air operations, maritime operations and Special Forces activities.
TS19 will run from late June to early August. Exercise activities in Shoalwater Bay Training Area and region will commence from early July and peak during 11-24 July.
