Tim and Gina Fairfax, the Cultural Patrons of Flying Arts Alliance, will be joined by Queensland art supporters in Winton on Saturday July 27 for the largest regional launch of a touring exhibition in the QRAA's nine-year history.
Flying Arts CEO Kerryanne Farrer said the Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton was an obvious choice for Wanderlust's regional launch.
"At the heart of the Queensland Regional Art Awards is a commitment to promoting art and artists of regional and rural Queensland, as is its touring exhibition outcome as it travels throughout the State," Ms Farrer said.
"The Waltzing Matilda Centre is a cultural hub for outback Queensland, so it is an ideal location to host our major launch."
As a former and current prize winner in the QRAA, the Exhibition Supervisor at the Waltzing Matilda Centre Karen Stephens is excited to welcome the Wanderlust touring exhibition to her home.
Her painting Noogooraville received the top prize in the QRAA in 2016, and her Mitchell, Feathertop and Flinders took home the Remote Artist Award in 2018, and will thus feature in the Wanderlust exhibition.
Karen Stephens said the partnership between Flying Arts Alliance and the Waltzing Matilda Centre would benefit the Winton community into the future.
"Hosting the launch in Winton is a great opportunity to have 'face to face' contact with arts supporters from all around Queensland and will assist in facilitating future sustainability and cohesion for arts in the regions," Ms Stephens said.
"Through this event we are also able to meet the demand for quality arts program in the regions that benefit a wide cross section of people."
The official event for the regional launch of Wanderlust will begin at 6pm on Saturday July 27 at The Outback Regional Gallery at the Waltzing Matilda Centre, Winton.
