Originally planned as a one-off event, the ride returned for its 12th year on Saturday morning for a 202 kilometre jaunt up the Barkly Hwy.
Over 100 riders set off from the Civic Centre headed for the Northern Territory border, with Camooweal the only settlement along the way, and that only 15km from the end.
Some were doing the charity event in teams, others like husband and wife Andrew Locke and Donna Simpson doing the whole shebang solo.
Andrew and Donna said they were from Beaudesert but their daughter worked in Mount Isa.
"We've been up here before two years ago but we've really wanted to do this ride," they said.
Riders will check in for bike safety checks at 5.30am before commencing the ride at 7am.
The first ride in 2008 was originally scheduled as merely a training exercise when a few keen cyclists wanted to do a practice session to the Northern Territory border.
It grew from that to become an annual event, traditionally on the weekend before Isa Rodeo.
