Strong winds ejected a large plume of dust across North West Queensland and the Gulf region.
Meteorologists say a firm high pressure system over southwestern Australia sent a surge of blustery south to southeasterly winds across northwest Queensland on Monday morning.
Dry topsoil become airborne as wind gusts reached 60-65km/h at Burketown, Normanton, Cloncurry, Camooweal and Mount Isa.
Satellite images captured the plume of airborne dirt travelling over the Gulf on Monday, extending more than 500km offshore before the day ended.
