The second Annihilation Fight Night brought a packed house to the Mount Isa Irish Club in July. The crowd watched 15 fights in the cage, featuring boxing and muay thai matches. Two eagerly anticipated match ups were the celebrity bouts, each fight of three one minute rounds where MP Robbie Katter lost to NRL player John Doyle and Rodeo Queen Quester Tony "Tonka" Toholke took on hairdresser Jon James. Quevarn Patuwi defeated Mark Soloman in the main bout.

The Cloncurry Stockman's Challenge and Campdraft ended with record crowds and near record numbers of competitors flooding to the Cloncurry Equestrian Centre for the five-day event with new Governor-General David Hurley in attendance. Joshua Smith from Gracemere took out the Stockman's Classic Challenge event riding 3-year old stallion GI M Hard.
There was a home town win for the first time in five years in the Boulia Camel Cup. The 1500m classic is the longest camel race in the country and one of the wealthiest. This year Wason took out the prestigious win for local Boulia camel trainers Dannileah Stewart and Ronnie Callope, with Charleville based jockey Tiana Taratoa.
Wynnum Manly Seagulls proved too strong for Mackay Cutters during the Intrust Super Cup 'Get in the Game' Country Week clash in Cloncurry. A second half "shut-out" by the Seagulls saw them run away with the game 34-12, after scores were locked up 12-12 at halftime.
The hotly contested $1 million hole-in-one rolls over to 2020 after it failed to go off in the last leg of the inaugural Outback Queensland Masters in Mount Isa. Thirty players including two from Mount Isa qualified for the hole in one opportunity on the modified par 3 18th hole. Though two players made birdies, none was good enough for the hole in one in the 150m shot despite advice from touring professional Darren Weatherall.
Ravenshoe cowboy Rohan Markham is the toast of North West Queensland after taking out his first ever buckle in the open bull ride at the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo. Markham was first out of the chutes in the final showdown in front of a packed house on Sunday. His flawless eight second ride was worth 85 points for a grand total of 238 that was not to be beaten.
Brothers forwards stood up at the most crucial time of the season, to bring them within arms reach of winning their first grand final in over 20 years.They beat Black Stars in a hard fought semi final game played out in front hundreds of spectators. Relentless hard and straight runs from Brothers forwards proved to be an an important factor in the game.Final score 36-24 with Brothers heading off into the grand final to play Townies.
