Inlander trips cancelled following train derailment near Mingela

At approximately 9.30pm on Monday December 23, four wagons of a Pacific National freight train derailed at Mingela, 47 kilometres east of Charters Towers.

Queensland Rail response crews were immediately dispatched to secure and inspect the site and recovery crews continue to assess the track in order to commence the necessary repairs.

The impacted wagons were transporting copper anodes, no environmental impact cause and no injuries were sustained.

Queensland Rail said in a statement that the "rail corridor between Sellheim and Mingela is currently closed to all rail traffic."

"Safety is Queensland Rail's priority and as such, it is anticipated the line will remain closed to all rail traffic for approximately five to seven days while repair works are completed," the Queensland Rail said.

As a result, the following Inlander services have been cancelled:

Buses have been arranged to transport impacted customers.

Queensland Rail will continue to liaise with freight customers on the Mount Isa line regarding the incident and recovery.

Queensland Rail is working with Pacific National and the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator to investigate this incident.
