The refurbishment included the renewal and upgrade of the aerodrome's solar runway and apron lighting, runway sub pavement rehabilitation and asphalt resurfacing of a section of the runway, bitumen resealing of the taxiway and apron and remarking the pavement markings.

The work was funded through a 50/50 funding partnership between the Australian Government's Regional Aviation Access Programme and Council and was completed in September 2019.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she was delighted to see the Camooweal Aerodrome had received this much-needed upgrade.

"This refurbishment will ensure the aerodrome will be available to be utilised for many more years to come," Cr McCulloch said.

"The aging solar lighting more than a decade old, had become difficult to maintain and was upgraded to meet the new CASA aerodrome standard lighting requirements.

"The aerodrome is also used by emergency services as a staging point as well as by the Royal Flying Doctor Services for their weekly clinics runs, so it is an essential facility for the Camooweal community.

"The aerodrome was even used by His Excellency Paul de Jersey, the Governor of Queensland, during his visit to Camooweal last year.

"Council thanks the Australian Government for funding this refurbishment project and our Council staff for delivering the much-needed upgrade."
