Cloncurry Shire Council mayor Greg Campbell has retained his seat as the sole mayoral candidate in the 2020 Local Government Election.

Cr Campbell was unopposed for mayor and during the ballot draw on Wednesday March 4, the returning officer Neil Campbell (no relation) officially announced the mayor would return to his seat in council.
Cr Campbell became mayor in 2016 and said he was pleased to be returning to the position.
"I look forward to working with the elected council to make Cloncurry the great little town that it is and continues to be," Cr Campbell said.
Meanwhile 17 candidates - one more than Mount Isa - put their names forward for the council draw with five councillors to be elected.
All sitting councillors including deputy mayor Dane Swalling have renominated for their positions, except for Brad Rix who has relocated to the Gold Coast.
Businesswoman and first time council candidate Janessa Bidgood was drawn out as number one on the ballot paper while local cheaper air fares advocate and Discovery Parks manager Hamish Griffin drew the last position.
The full list of candidates were as follows: 1-Janessa Bidgood 2- Bradley Edgar, 3- Nathan Keyes, 4- Damien McGee, 5- Kristie Moore, 6- Bryan Ontronen, 7- Stephen Foley, 8- Peter Hacon, 9- Trevor Jones, 10- Vicky Campbell, 11- Teresa Charles-Scobie, 12- Dane Swalling, 13- Ronald Hombre Major, 14- Danny Battle, 15- Jane McMillan, 16- Sam Daniels and 17- Hamish Griffin.
Voters go to the polls on Saturday March 28.
