My main priorities as a Councillor are crime, communication and community.
Crime is a big issue in Mount Isa, and I would like to work with the people of Mount Isa to address this problem.
From a State perspective, the only way that the State Government will give us more police and more resources to tackle crime is if the statistics are out here.
I urge Mount Isa residents to ring Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or Policelink on 131 444, if they see a crime happening, or if they have information that the Police should know about.
If that phone call is put through on Policelink, that is a statistic for Mount Isa and that counts.
The last time I was on Council, I worked very hard on the steering committee for the installation of public CCTV cameras in Mount Isa, so I know how important this is.
We all have to take responsibility for our own community, and we have to report any instances of crime to the Police.
My portfolio includes Parks and Gardens, Splashez Aquatic Centre and the Family Fun Park.
I would like to acknowledge and thank Council's wonderful Parks and Gardens team for the excellent work they all do.
They may be a small crew, but they are dedicated, hardworking, and go above and beyond their duty in keeping Mount Isa looking great, tending to some 42 parks and hundreds of median strips and footpaths.
I know all too well that Mount Isa's community groups and sporting groups are the backbone of our community, and I will do everything that I can in the next four years to support these groups. I want to make sure that we back them well as a Council.
Members of these groups are all volunteers and go out of their way, giving up their own personal time to deliver services and events to the people of Mount Isa to make it the great city that it is.
I'm a very approachable person, so if you see me out and about, I don't mind talking to anyone about any problems in Mount Isa or receiving any suggestions people may have.
I encourage feedback and all Mount Isa residents are welcome to talk to me or call me. As a Council, we can't fix a problem if we don't know about the problem.
