Mount Isa City Council will welcome the Governor-General and his wife, David and Linda Hurley, during their two-day visit to Mount Isa this month.

The itinerary will introduce them to people who have made a significant contribution to the Mount Isa community beginning with a welcoming morning tea at the Ngukuthati Children and Family Centre with Father Mick Lowcock and local Indigenous organisations on Monday, November 16.
The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley will then attend a Council briefing, and have lunch with Mayor Danielle Slade, Councillors and business leaders at the Council Chambers.
They will also attend a Citizenship Ceremony later that afternoon, to welcome and congratulate Mount Isa's eight newest citizens, and that night be the honoured guests at a civic reception at Outback at Isa with tourism representatives and citizenship conferees.
The next day, they will take part in a morning walk with a local walking group, a tree-planting in recognition of Mount Isa's pioneers, have a tour of Mount Isa Mines, and meet and have lunch with Mount Isa school leaders at the Council Chambers.
Mayor Danielle Slade said it was an honour for Mount Isa to have the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visit and tour the city.
"This will be the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley's first visit to Mount Isa, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome them to our wonderful city. We trust they will thoroughly enjoy seeing the sights and learning more about Mount Isa and its history during their visit and will take away with them great memories of their experience, the amazing people and the strong sense of community in Mount Isa," Cr Slade said.
The Governor-General and his wife visited Cloncurry not long after he was appointed to the role in July 2019.
