Mr Crisafulli grew up at Ingham and worked as a journalist before entering politics in 2004 as a Townsville City councillor.
He joined forces with Thuringowa Mayor Les Tyrell to run as deputy mayor during the 2008 local government elections, where a series of councils were amalgamated.
Mr Crisafulli was in that role until 2012, when he successfully contested the state seat of Mundingburra and served as Local Government Minister in the Campbell Newman-led government.
He lost the seat in 2015 during the Labor whitewash but returned to state parliament in 2017 as the Broadwater MP.
The LNP team gathered at Parliament House on Thursday to elect their new leader, with Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki elected as deputy.
Mr Janetzki is a former lawyer and grew up on a Darling Downs dairy farm. He was elected in 2016 during the Toowoomba South by-election, following the resignation of Dr John McVeigh, who went on to serve as the federal Groom MP.
In the Labor camp, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealed her new look cabinet on Wednesday afternoon with just three of her ministers to be based outside the south east corner.
This morning, the Electoral Commission of Queensland declared the seats of Bundaberg and Nicklin for Labor, with Whitsunday called for the LNP.
