It's not the first time Mr Davidson has been to Cloncurry, assisting Council in 2016 through a similar transitional period.
Mr Davidson's career in local government has seen him fill leadership roles in multiple states and countries, including 19 years as the Noosa CEO.
Mayor Greg Campbell said it was great to have his experience and enthusiasm back in town just days after a visit by the prime minister.
"While we recruit a permanent CEO, Bruce will provide stability and guidance to the organisation and ensure the program of works and operations meets our agreed targets," Cr Campbell said.
"This is also an opportunity for Council to review practices through fresh eyes and make improvements where appropriate.
"It is critical that our performance does not diminish while Council searches for a new CEO".
Cloncurry accepted the resignation of its former CEO David Bezuidenhout in December.
