During a Mount Isa Ordinary Council Meeting on March 17, works and construction councillor Mick Tully said delays of essential works at the Civic Centre "were not good enough" considering they commenced in April 2020.
"It has been 12 months since it closed. In December the toilet refurbishments were to be done by Council but now it has been contracted," Cr Tully said.
"I understand we have been short staffed and the water leaks around town due to aging infrastructure have taken priority but I don't think it is suitable for the Civic Centre to be out of action for 12 months.
"I feel the same as everyone else, it is pretty disappointing, it's not fair to the ratepayer and moving forward with future developments we need to make sure that this doesn't happen again."
Cr Tully said the works initially conducted on the facility were essential, however underlying issues were also found during the process.
"Some of the construction was essential works and some work were issues they found once they've pulled some of the infrastructure down," he said.
"It has opened up a can of worms, but all the work that needs to be done has to be done. It is an old structure and it needs to be maintained as it does get used a lot."
Cr Tully said majority of works should be complete by April 1, when the first show is to be held in the Civic Centre.
The soffit repairs are almost complete, the shade sails need to go up and the toilet refurbishment should be complete by May-June," he said.
"I am sure the community will be happy with the completed works. It's a great venue for conferences, school formals and events, so they'll be happy."
The first show in the upgraded facility will be 'Bluey's Big Play- The Stage Show'.
