They have not been able to advise a fix time and Mount Isa City Council reckon it could be until 1.30pm.
Normally thriving Mount Isa lunchtime businesses such as the Coffee Club, Xtra Mile and the Isa Hotel have had to close their door losing business.
Traffic lights are out across the city while servos are unable to provide fuel.with 10,000 customers without power in Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Dajarra, Julia Creek and Kajabbi.
The Ergon outage finder says "the loss of supply is due to the operating of protective equipment."
Commerce North West president Emma Harman told the ABC said businesses were "unfortunately used to power outages".
"My understanding is this one in particular covers all of Mount Isa, all of Cloncurry, which puts a significant number of businesses and services out," Ms Harman said.
"If it continues for very much longer I suspect that businesses will be suffering a great deal."
