Mount Isa's schools and businesses were unable to strut their stuff in the Rodeo Week street parade this year but that doesn't mean the competition to judge the floats can't go ahead.

The Isa Street Festival would normally have been expected to pack the streets of the CBD last night but was cancelled due to Covid last Friday.
When cancelling the festival, Council encouraged all parade entrants to keep preparing their floats and advised them to film their parade entry and send it in to Council who would publish the video on their Facebook page and give prizes to the winners.
So far on Thursday the Council have posted videos from two schools: St Kieran's Catholic School and Healy State School with this year's theme "Country roads and city lights".
Healy students embarked on a journey where the "city slickers" travel the country road and experience the diverse and vibrant culture of Mount Isa as "stunning Outback road leads to the City of Opportunity."
At least 45 St Kierans students and 10 teachers took part in the float, which featured cowboys, rodeo clowns, and grey nomads in caravans.
Students held up signs for Winton, Cloncurry, Camooweal, Julia Creek and Boulia.
"Within each of those towns there's also some significant feature or place that people go and visit and see or do," Principal Claudine Dank said.
"So we did a bit of history to see what's significant about a lot of those places."
Mount Isa City Council videoed their own float featuring staff dressed up as traffic controllers, light-up signs, wagon wheels, and other decorations with Mayor Danielle Slade and Deputy Mayor Phil Barwick aboard driving down the dead end Church St.
Council said they would soon announce the winners of the competition.
