Three locals were honoured as role models at Mount Isa's first ever International Men's Dinner on Saturday.

James Derrick was awarded the 2021 Mount Isa Man of Achievement, Peter Tuppurainen was awarded the 2021 Mount Isa local hero and Malachi Munns was awarded the 2021 Mount Isa Youth Leader at the event which attracted 230 people.
Event organiser Tonka Toholke said it was a casual night out where men could just relax and enjoy themselves.
"It was great to see the male community of Mount Isa attend the event and seemed to enjoy themselves," Mr Toholke said.
"It could not have been put on without the amazing and generous support of the Mount Isa local businesses and sponsors, we thank them for their support and look forward to hopefully working with them again next year."
Mr Toholke thanked the dedicated team of volunteers who helped for this event all their hard work, that created an enjoyable event.
"Jason & Narelle Crockett were responsible for the concept of this event and through their hard work, this event successfully highlighted the large number of inspirational men we have within our community," he said.
"We hope this event will be added to everyone's yearly social calendar & the event can continue and grow each year.
The event celebrated International Men's Day (November 19) and the great men within the Mount Isa Community who are positive role models and raise awareness of men's wellbeing.
The event featured the Mount Isa Show demolition derby with the Pirtek Car taking out the honours as being the last car standing, ALF legend Peter "Spida" Everitt was the keynote speaker for the evening, entertaining the crowd with humous "look back at the year in sport" and a few stories from his days playing in the AFL.

2021 Mount Isa Man of Achievement nominees-
George Leon- nominated for his outstanding work with the youth of Mount Isa & out lying communities, George is a police liaison officer at the Mount Isa police station.
James Derrick- nominated for his out standing work with the Mount Isa Youth through Boxing. James was unable to attend the event because he was doing what he was nominated for and had taken a team out of town to compete at a boxing tournament.
Mark Murphy- nominated for his outstanding work within the Mount Isa community and the transport industry. Mark has supported so many local events, sporting groups, charites and organisations over the years there are just too many to mention.
2021 Mount Isa Local Hero nominees-
Guido Pittis- nominated for his volunteering efforts for Rotary, Mount Isa Show and the Mount Isa Ski Club.
Peter Tuppurainen- nominated for his volunteering efforts with Rotary, Isa Rodeo, Tonka's queen quest, school fetes and barbecues, his sponsorship of sporting groups, events and charities. Also, his personal fundraising efforts currently doing a walkathon raising funds for the Black Dog Institute.
Dr Joss- (Dr Ioselani Pouesi) nominated for his volunteering efforts within the Mount Isa Samoan community, Mount Isa Golf Club and congressional Christian Church of Samoa. Dr Joss also travels back to Samoa to help with medical clinics at his own expense
Donavan Kirk- nominated for his volunteering efforts at PCYC Chilling in the Park events, coaching rugby under 9's & women's rugby league
John Doyle - Nominated for providing mentorship, leadership to the young people of our community, Volunteering his time at schools, community sporting groups and events.
Jesse Rosenthal - nominated for his volunteer work with the Mount Isa Show, Mount Isa Pony Club, Mount Isa Bronco Branding and his recent hard work for Walk Ride Run for Palliative care
Chris Kuhne- nominated for his volunteering efforts with rotary, school of the air, sedan dip & other events.
Peter George- nominated for his volunteering coaching soccer & foot ball teams along with his sponsorship for Save The Children in the Bail Rehab Program, Wonders Football rep side, City vs Country.
Frank Santos- nominated for his volunteering efforts for Rotary, Frank is known in the club as the BBQ guy, he attend & organises the many barbecues that Rotary put on throughout the year attending school fates, medical clinics, rock pop etc.
2021 Mount Isa Youth leader nominees
Malachi Munns- at 15 years of age he is called upon by the Good Shepherd community to represent them at NAIDOC celebrations, Reconciliation week, regularly preforming acknowledgement to country & volunteering at all school events. Malachi is an outstanding role model for all his peers.
Jake Russell- an inspiring humble leader, Jake was the 2021 School Captain for Good Shepard, a role model and mentor to his peers & younger students. Jake volunteered at all school events this year and he personally raised funds for Shave for a Cure by shaving his head.
