Headspace Mount Isa acting center manager, Jan Hagon, said as Mount Isa was so isolated many young people suffered anxiety and depression.
“There are heaps of young people who come here for work. So I think such things as anxiety and depression can settle in when you don’t know anyone. These issues can snowball into mental health issues if not addressed,” Ms Hagon said.
“Anything can trigger mental health. It could be a young person feeling anxious about exams, a falling out with friends, being bullied or falling out with parents.”
Ms Hagon said Headspace Mount Isa aimed to encourage people to remove the stigma around mental health and open our doors to the public.
“Our door is always open. People can come in just for a chat or we offer services such as counselling, a general practitioner or a psychologist. If anyone needs anymore assistance than those services we can assist them along that pathway.”
