After latest results showed almost five Mount Isa children per week log “unusual” blood lead levels, the new app will be welcome news.
Called LEADSmart, it is a free smartphone app which was launched by Lead Alliance chair and Traeger MP Robbie Katter at the Mount Isa Show with the help of former National Rugby League Cowboys and State of Origin star Matty Bowen.
The footy legend is on board as the Lead Alliance’s LEADSmart advocate and will assist the Lead Alliance to promote the app in the Mount Isa community, and help educate local kids about living safely in an area where lead is present in the environment.
“I was more than happy to help out,” Mr Bowen said.
“It’s important for kids and adults to check up on their blood lead levels and make sure they can keep in touch with it, and the app reminds you when your next test should be.”

Mr Katter said LEADSmart is the next step in the Lead Alliance’s mission to achieve sustainable improvements in the health of the Mount Isa community through education, so the community can work together towards a safer and healthier community.
“It is important with kids, particularly young kids to educate them how to be smart with lead which naturally occurs in the soil out here,” Mr Katter said.
The app can be used to track and monitor family blood lead levels, giving families the targeted tips they need to proactively monitor and manage their exposure risk.
The app allows people to create a profile for themselves and each member of their family, record and track blood lead level test results over time, know the facts about “living smart” and limiting your lead exposure, receive reminders for your next recommended test date, send appointment information to your personal smartphone calendar, receive notifications about Lead Alliance programs, events and news and share the app on Facebook.
To download the app, search for LEADSmart in the App Store or Google Play.
