Around 31mm fell officially in the Mount Isa airport gauge overnight though there were localised heavy falls elsewhere.
There was an afternoon shower on Tuesday but the heavens really opened that night with police reporting one single-vehicle accident on the slippery roads.
The falls included in the catchment of the previously parched Leichhardt River upsteam of Mount Isa causing a few people heading to work on Wednesday to renegotiate their journeys onto the flood-free Grace St bridge over the highway.
The forecast is a 30-50 per cent chance of more showers in the coming days leading into the weekend.
It will be partly cloudy on Saturday with a medium (40 per cent) chance of showers in the afternoon and evening.
That goes down to 20 per cent on Sunday with similar conditions into next week.
