Mount Isa City Council commenced work to tidy up the base of the Frank Aston Hill, with the construction of an off-road caravan and campervan parking facility.
The new parking area will permit up to 15 caravans and campervans to park near the shopping centres, freeing up parking for standard vehicles on Rodeo Drive.
Access to the site will be via Ada and Shackleton streets, and the exit will be along Gray Street.
A Council spokesperson said parking will be for daytime parking only and camping will not be permitted.
"Work should take three weeks to complete, with sealing of the carpark depending on the availability of sealing contractors," the spokesperson said.
The project cost $85,000 and forms part of Council’s parking review throughout the city, with works having already commenced in Camooweal Street.
