Tropical Cyclone Trevor is intensifying off the western Cape York coast as it moves southwest into the Gulf of Carpentaria with severe impact on the southwestern Gulf coast likely this weekend including winds of up to 275 kph.

TC Trevor is currently a Category 2, sustained winds near the centre of 110kph with wind gusts to 155kph.
It is located 175km west southwest of Aurukun and 420km east of Alyangula on Groote Eylandt and moving : southwest at 12kph.
Trevor will intensify further and continue its southwest movement across the Gulf of Carpentaria and is likely to cross the Northern Territory coast during Saturday as a severe category 4.
Gales to 120kph will develop on Groote Eylandt and Mornington and Sweers Islands from Friday afternoon and extend to the mainland coast between Cape Shield in the Northern Territory and Burketown in Queensland on Friday night and then inland into the eastern Carpentaria and northern Barkly Districts and northwest Gulf Country on Saturday morning.
Inland locations which may be affected include Doomadgee, Brunette Downs, Creswell Downs, Cape Crawford, Robinson River and Wollogorang.
Gales with gusts in excess of 90kph may develop between Burketown and Karumba later on Friday if the cyclone takes a more southerly track.
The very destructive core of Severe Tropical Cyclone Trevor is forecast to cross the southwestern coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria between Groote Eylandt and the NT/Queensland Border during Saturday with very destructive winds, with gusts to 275kph near the cyclone centre as it approaches and crosses the coast.
