The proposal of the new site was announced in 2017 with Bunnings conducting a public review of plans.
When The North West Star approached Mount Isa City Council to see what was holding up the development, they said Bunnings was looking into the relocation of the West Street site's sewer and stormwater mains before proceeding with the construction work for the proposed new Bunnings facility.
"The site is currently under contract, and has been for about two years, and the Development Application for the new Bunnings store is approved," said Council.
The new Bunnings Warehouse at the old council works depot and storage yard site, would replace the current Bunnings on Camooweal Street.
Bunnings Director of Property Andrew Marks said "we are still reviewing our options for the new development in Mount Isa and will update the community as soon as we can."
The development will have a total retail area of 5607.5 square metres, with original plans indicating it would have a main warehouse, timber trade sales, a building materials and landscape yard, bagged good canopy, an outdoor nursery, main entrance and outdoor display areas.
The plans indicated 172 car park with two entrances from West Streer and one from Alma Street and the facility would operate from 6am to 9pm seven days a week.
