Glencore provided $5,000 towards the Flash Fridays program which provides a safe space for students to have a free breakfast before the school day begins.
It aims to give students every opportunity to have a productive day of learning on a full stomach.
The Cloncurry State School is co-educational and has almost 300 students from preparatory level all the way through to year 12.
It's dedicated to providing a quality education to a diverse range of students, supporting them to achieve excellence in their education, whilst also instilling in the students a strong sense of pride and belonging.
The Cloncurry State School is also lucky enough to have a School Chaplain, who runs the Flash Fridays program. A School Chaplain contributes to the social, emotional and spiritual well-being of all students, regardless of age, race, gender, faith or beliefs.
Cloncurry State School Chaplain, Tania Britton said she hoped the number of students and parents who attend the program will increase to build a stronger sense of community within the school.
"This program aims to create a safe and welcoming environment to address the impact that disadvantage can have on education outcomes," Ms Britton said.
"It's difficult to learn at school when you are hungry, yet some kids leave home without breakfast.
Providing a free breakfast supports children to achieve their best in the classroom and in the playground. A child's ability to concentrate in class and learn is negatively impacted if they are in need of nourishment.
Providing students with breakfast enhances their engagement and positively impacts student academic performance."
Chief Operating Officer for Glencore's Copper Assets Australia, Matt O'Neill said the company targets its support at initiatives that benefit as many people as possible within our communities.
"We are proud to be able to support an initiative that ensures students in our community have the best opportunity to make the most of their education and develop healthy eating habits," Mr O'Neill said.
"This program provides a better start to the day for children who would otherwise go to school hungry.
"Cloncurry State School plays a very proactive and essential role in the Cloncurry community and also ensures our employees have access to education services, as it is the only secondary school in town."
