Ms Ferris re-contested as councillor in the 2020 Local Government Election as part of the Progress Mount Isa team, however she was not re-elected ending her 29 consecutive years as a councillor.
Ms Ferris wasn't the only member of the Progress team who failed to retain their seat with former Mount Isa Mayor Joyce McCulloch also removed from council.
Ms McCulloch wrote a moving tribute to Ms Ferris on the Progress Mount Isa Facebook page, following the formal declaration of the new Council.
"Today we celebrate a much-loved community icon. Jean Ferris has been a councillor for a remarkable 29 years and 10 months - just short of an incredible 30 year stint. Jean has been a passionate and motivated member of the council team, and had a significant impact on the Mount Isa community," the post read.
"Jean has a fierce passion for families and lifestyle, and has always put the best interests of the Mount Isa community first. Her outstanding contribution to our community has resulted in the Family Fun Park, the Skate Park, many CBD upgrades, the recent library refurbishment, to name a few.
"For almost 30 years, Jean has been the councillor who listens to the many stories shared with her by residents of all ages. An inspiration to the many councillors she has worked with over the decades, Jean has never backed down from challenging the 'norm' and has gone on to create unique facilities and opportunities for families and young people of the North West.
"We wish you all the best, Jean. Although we say farewell to you as a compassionate and inspiring councillor, we are blessed that you will remain here in the Isa and continue to be a valuable part of our community. Your outstanding service, your dedication and your significant accomplishments leave a living legacy to us - the Mount Isa Community - for which we are humbly grateful."
