Council has identified a parcel of land at the Lake Moondarra Reserve it believes is suitable for the Complex but last Wednesday's Council meeting heard the state government has not yet given approval to use it.
Former deputy mayor and councillor for 12 years, Brett Peterson, attended the meeting and asked about the complex saying that several motor sports groups needed to make decisions soon.
Mr Peterson said the matter was first raised in 2017 with discussions on an advisory committee in 2020.
"There are several groups deciding which way to go, whether they expand on their current area or make plans to build one complete motor sports complex but I'd like to know where we are with that," Mr Peterson said."
In response Deputy Mayor and North West Motorsports Park Chair Phil Barwick said the project was important for the city's liveability, and they had asked the state department for land to use for the project,
"We are trying to get started on the project, we have done the terms of reference, we have a framework for the advisory committee to commence," Cr Barwick said.
"We haven't as yet applied for funding because we don't have the land but that will be first cab off the rank."
When Mr Peterson pressed for a timeframe when the land might be made available. Cr Barwick said the landholder had agreed to release the land to council based on an impact statement but the matter was still in the hands of the state government.
"We've spoken to the minister directly, but it's my understanding it's with the department," he said.
