Called "Pulverise at Peacock Park" it is a last man standing event where competitors are required to run a 6.7 kilometre loop within an hour, every hour, until there is only one race participant left.
The backyard Ultramarathon will take part at Lake Moondarra on Saturday June 18, with event organiser Alison Whitehead saying registrations had opened.
"Participants go for as long as they can. However when it gets down to two racers and a person drops out, the last man standing must complete one more lap before being declared the winner," Ms Whitehead said.
"This event is created to push yourself and others around you. If anyone does 24 hours, they get a world ranking and there is only 300 Australians in the world ranking. Can someone from Mount Isa do it?
"Most inaugural events typically don't get up to the 24 hour mark but I know there are quite a few people here who are yearning for that 24 hour ranking.
"The world record is 85 laps so that's 580 kilometres- obviously that is for elite competitors."
ALSO IN THE NEWS:
The event is open to individual runners and also teams.
"It is an individual event, and while I have opened it up to teams, each team members still has to run every loop. Then each team members' loops will be added together and the team who completes the most amount of loops will be declared the team winners," Ms Whitehead said.
"It is good to encourage sporting teams to get involved, some people may be a little bit shy and not want to come out by themselves and might be more encouraged to run with friends.
"There is also a One Hit Wonder event at 3pm where anyone can come out and run or walk a lap untimed and take part in the event."
Ms Whitehead said anyone who wasn't the last man standing received a DNF (Did Not Finish)
"Everyone who doesn't win is classed as a DNF, so it's become a joke that the chances of you winning are so slim, but it's a good challenge.
"I love the idea that you might be the slowest runner out there but every lap that you make it around you are tied for first place with other races who might be super speedy.
"The faster you complete the lap the more break you get. But in saying that the faster you complete it the more stiff you may get, so it is quite tactical and the fastest runners don't necessarily win."
Ms Whitehead said while there was the added drive to be the last man standing, the event was for a good cause.
"We are raising funds for the Laura Johnson Home, Dementia Ward, which I think is close to a lot of peoples hearts. My mum has dementia and she is in a home in Melbourne and obviously it's too hard to fundraise for them down there, so thought we would fundraise for those here," she said.
"(Laura Johnson Home) CEO Betty Keirnan suggested painting the doors of the dementia ward different colours to help residents identify which room is theirs. Going through the experience of putting reflector tape all over my mum's door, so she knew that was her room, I thought it was a great idea and something I wanted to get behind.
"It is an awful disease to watch someone go through, it's heartbreaking and worth supporting the ward."
Registrations have opened, entry fees include $120 for individual, teams between 5-10 people is $100 each and the One Hit Wonder is $50.
All participants receive a race hat, the racers doing the long event will get a laundry bag, and there will be a surprise event award.
Registrations close the week before the event, you can register on the Gecko Outdoor Sports Facebook Page.
