The CEO David Keenan was included as a member on the new board appointed by the state government last year after nine months of being run by an administrator.
However a council meeting to endorse the appointment at the end of the month left the matter on the table at the end of the meeting with no decision following discussion in closed business.
The matter was finally resolved at another special council meeting last Wednesday, where Mr Keenan's appointment was approved.
Proposing the motion Cr Peta MacRae said it was appropriate Council supported staff and allowed them to have all opportunities for professional development and further their careers.
"It's not a paid position," she said, referring to the board role.
Seconding the motion Cr Kim Coghlan said it was important people like David who've got a wealth of experience were on the board.
"I think he'll be a great addition for the hospital board. There are issues out here with our health system and I think people with the calibre of experience of David can only enhance how Mount Isa, and all of the regions around Mount Isa, can go forward," Cr Coghlan said.
