MOUNT Isa Mayor Tony McGrady said since the CCTV footage project had been revealed to the public a number of residents had expressed concern about privacy.

He said people had argued an installation of cameras would be an invasion of their privacy, but he believed it was a sacrifice which needed to be paid.
"Some may say it's an invasion on privacy but we are trying to ensure our CBD and taxi ranks are able to stay a safe place for our people to be," he said.
"There always comes a time when you need to sacrifice something and in other locations where this type of thing is in place it has been proven there is no issue with privacy."
Cr McGrady said he would schedule a meeting this week about the proposed contract of the CCTV project to discuss the next step after securing funding.
