After a long career in the hospitality industry, the mother-of-three has finally fulfilled her dream by taking over her dream business.
``It's exciting to get up and love going to work every day and seeing the babies and the mums,'' she said.
You can tell Mrs Donnelly is at home among the baby booties and knitted toys and has made it her mission to stop almost everyone through her door to ask what they think Mount Isa's baby and toddler scene needs.
``You can go anywhere for the basics, and you can get those here too, but when you want something a bit nicer or want really good quality toys we have them,'' she said.
``I am finding this week there's a lot of things in town that can only be sourced online.''
The Miles Street business is packed with clothing, toys, party decorations, decor and jewellery for newborns through to 12-year-olds and their mums.
Mrs Donnelly said she would like to keep introducing new things to help out mums in a hurry and those who have more time to browse.
``In Mount Isa everyone's time poor so I'd like to help that market as well,'' she said.
``People can rush in if they're busy and there are options here.
``I know what it's like when you have a busy work life and a family.''
Mrs Donnelly said Ruby & Birdie would also showcase its wears at the Cloncurry and District Show and the Mount Isa Baby Expo this year.
To celebrate the new management of the business, Ruby & Birdie is offering 25 per cent off selected stock and 50 per cent of all children's summer wear.
