They were among the number of sex workers who worked shifts at the brothel, which closed this week.
A new MyRoom manager defended the establishment in March by saying clients would get what they wanted in Mount Isa without the brothel – which was subjected to strict health standards and security.
“With or without us it’s going to go on,” the manager said.
The brothel was a legitimate business monitored by the Prostitution Licensing Authority and was better than a “sleazy motel” elsewhere in Mount Isa.
Mount Isa Police Detective Acting Inspector Kelly Harvey warned that police will continue to uphold prostitution laws.
“These laws are designed to protect our community from harm so that people can live, work and visit Mount Isa without a fear of crime or personal harm.
“The history and problems of illegal prostitution are spread across a lot of communities and generally as a community we aren’t immune to this issue either.”
MyRoom announced last Thursday through social media its closure as the last six months had been difficult for local businesses.
“Unfortunately we are in the same boat and have had to make the very difficult decision to close our doors.
“We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our regular clients new and old.”
Commerce North West president Travis Crowther said it was “disappointing” to learn any legitimate business closed in Mount Isa.
“A lot of people probably wouldn’t agree with it.
“It’s still a legitimate sort of business even if people don’t agree with them.”
Isa Community Church Senior Pasty Dave Quilty said prostitution was “inconsistent with the Christian lifestyle” even if it was frequently mentioned in the bible.
“Even Jesus was a number of times in the house of a prostitute ministering to them,” he said.
