A North West industry source believed one shift of workers was made redundant – which amounted to about 30 workers.
Cloncurry Shire Council has received no official confirmation of redundancies but acting Mayor Jane McMillan said the news was “disappointing” if true.
Gold Coast based staff were at the Cloncurry site this week, and a meeting was held with employees on Tuesday afternoon.
A Western Australian miner applying for a job at Cudeco heard through a friend that the company made layoffs.
He was concerned because he was only interested in relocating to Cloncurry if guaranteed long-term employment.
“Certainly when a mate tells you this you do not want to pack up shop from WA for Cloncurry,” the miner said.
CuDeco was placed in a trading halt early this month after shareholders rejected the company’s bid to raise $50 million from Chinese supported Focus Sun Holdings.
The rejection means the company is struggling to find the capital it needs to operate at Rocklands.
