Cr McMillan identified four areas of improvement: waste, street upgrades, park upgrades and sports and recreation.
“Our waste facility is in urgent need of upgrading and the sewerage treatment also needs attention,” Cr McMillan said. “These are not glamorous jobs but these facilities are essential infrastructure to the town.”
The acting mayor also wanted upgrades to Scarr and Sheaffe Street including shaded parking and the redevelopment of Florence Clarke Park to make it more user friendly to community and tourists.
“Cloncurry also needed to finish development of our recreational grounds and equestrian centre,” she said.
Cr McMillan said if elected she would work hard on health, education and essential infrastructure.
“It is important to progress the work already done to firm up Cloncurry’s water security for development of agriculture, resources and tourism,” she said.
“It is critical we are responsible and diligent in our management. We need to have rates and utilities that are affordable and we need to create jobs and provide opportunities for our youth and unemployed.”

- Jane McMillan
Jane McMillan was elected to Cloncurry Shire Council in 2012 and appointed deputy mayor.
She became acting mayor in July 2015 when Mayor Andrew Daniels fell ill.
Cr McMillan said her experience of being acting mayor helped her decide to run for mayor in 2016.
“I am very passionate about what I have been doing,” she said.
“So I would love to continue on and have the opportunity to be mayor in my own right.”
She said she was a person who listened, was understanding and had respect for all people.
“I have proven that I am able to build relationships at all levels of government to secure necessary funding and work with people to achieve positive outcomes,” she said.
The Cloncurry Shire election is on March 19.
