As a resident of the Atherton Tablelands for the past 15 years, Valerie has been active in community organisations including as a co-ordinator of the Malanda Falls Visitor Centre and as a committee member of the Festival Malanda.
Valerie has a background in nursing, natural therapies and social research, and volunteers with several organisations across the Tablelands which support the restoration of the environment and the development of sustainable agriculture in the region.
A proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she says she is motivated in her efforts by her desire for today’s children to have a viable future.
“Australia deserves an accountable, transparent government that cares for its people, protects the environment and creates a just and equitable society based on a sustainable economy,” Ms Weier said.
Valerie said she was passionate about protecting land and water from the expansion of coal mining and CSG, and North Queensland had the potential to be a world leader in renewable energy generation.
Valerie said the protection of our spectacular natural environment was a top priority.
“I believe the long-term protection of the Great Barrier Reef is of vital importance to all Australians and must have priority with all levels of Government,” she says.
The election will be held on June 2.
Ms Weier is up against sitting member Bob Katter (KAP), Jonathan Pavetto (LNP) and Norm Jacobsen (ALP).
