The pleasant rainfall overnight and into Saturday has played havoc with sporting events with all cricket games postponed to Sunday and the charity horse ride for the Hann Family postponed to a later date, but is generally welcomed as the first rain of the month with corresponding lower temperatures.
The Bureau of Meteorology has only recorded 5.8mm of rain so far at the airport station but with rain still falling at the time of writing, that figure will increase.
It is the first recorded rain in Mount Isa since October 2.
The Bureau said the current rain was caused by an upper trough and associated surface trough which is moving eastwards across Queensland during the weekend.
The BoM says the rain and showers will become likely in the Mount Isa forecast district late this afternoon and evening and sunny weather will return for the next few days with maximum temperatures in the mid 30s.
