“This has not been an easy decision and I have in no way taken it lightly,” Mr Knuth said. “I’ve just started achieving many great things for regional Queensland and I’ve had many things to consider, but with the support and encouragement of my family, I am looking forward to the next chapter serving a new constituency.”
This is the second electorate abolition for Mr Knuth, who lost his seat of Charters Towers when boundaries were redrawn to create Dalrymple in 2009.
“The Redistribution Commission’s decision to split Dalrymple into three seats has been a big obstacle, but I was never going to let it distract us from continuing to fight for regional Queensland,” he said.
“Charters Towers will always be my home town; the place I won a rugby league grand final and where my team was named three-time state champions in the rail race competition,” he said. “I have many precious memories of Charters Towers and have been honoured to serve the wonderful people who call this place home.”
