Many local organisations relied on the funding boost, to allows them to continue providing services to the region.
Not-for-profit groups can apply for grants from $500 to $35,000 through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).
This fund is Queensland’s largest one-off grants program, distributing about $54 million per year.
The fund allocates grants to not-for-profit community groups, to enhance their capacity to provide services, leisure activities and opportunities for Queensland communities.
The next round of grants will open later this month and close on May 31.
Some of the north west’s beneficiaries included:
- The Mount Isa Filipino Association scored $25,000 for a new food truck.
- Cloncurry Bowls Club was gifted $33,450 for air conditioning
- Almost $20,000 for the Burke Shire Council to put towards the Order of the Outback Ball
- $6000 was given to the Mount Isa Quilters Group for new security blinds
- Mount Isa Theatrical Society will be able to upgrade lighting and audio equipment with their $14,745
- The Cloncurry District race club was gifted $5000 to purchase a television
- The Hughenden Kindergarten will upgrade their floors with their grant of $28,900
