Northern Queensland based Federal Government Senator Ian Macdonald welcomed the increased funding for Kennedy ranger organisations, saying it will help to deliver jobs and opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
“The Australian Government is proud to support the fantastic work being done by these Kennedy organisations which will share in more than $7.7 million to protect and conserve threatened species, marine systems and cultural places, while addressing environmental threats caused by feral animals, invasive weeds, marine debris and wild fire,” Senator Macdonald said.
Successful ranger organisations include:
- $3,482,246.09 to the Carpentaria Land Council Aboriginal Corporation for the Gangalidda-Garawa and Normanton Rangers
- $2,685,646.19 to Djunbunji Limited for the Mandingalbay Yidinji Rangers
- $1,566,454.71 to Gunggandji PBC Aboriginal Corporation for the Gunggandji Land and Sea Rangers
