The coordination of volunteers has been a major part of the establishment for many years and is run effectively this way.
The attraction is open during the peak tourist season which commenced from the beginning of April and runs until Sunday, September 30.
Volunteer Valerie Brown said they would be open seven days a week from 10am-2pm.
“We need volunteers this year, I would say it would be wonderful to have at least another six people,” Ms Brown said.
“We need two volunteers to work each shift. One to guide the tourist group and tell the stories and one to collect the money and man the museum,” she said.
No qualifications are necessary as training is provided on the job.
“The new volunteers would couple up with another volunteer and learn the stories first before going on their own.”
The Underground Hospital is located in the Mount Isa Base Hospital grounds, and entry is via the Beth Anderson Museum building, which is accessed from Joan Street.
