One of Mount Isa Show president Jesse Rosenthal’s more pleasant tasks at the Show opening last week was the presentation of life memberships to one of the Show’s stalwart volunteer couples, Liz and Mal Debney.

“Mal and Liz have been with the Show committee for a lot of years and we’d like to show our appreciation for how much work they’ve done,” Mr Rosenthal said.
The Debneys, former owners of Mount Isa Produce, have been involved with the Show for around 15 years particularly around the rodeo arena event.
“We used to organise the bronco branding and then when we retired five years ago, we’ve still been helping ever since,” Liz Debney said.
Mr Debney said bronco branding was his passion.
“We did it (the Show) because we wanted to keep it going,” he said.
“Mount Isa is the only show that does it,” Liz added.
The Debneys agreed Shows were important to rural towns and were “humbled” to receive life membership. “I wouldn’t have thought I’d done enough to deserve it,” Mal said modestly.
