Sandfire Bulls secured the first spot in the final after dismantling league favourites, Atlas in semi final game. 

Atlas were forced to fight for their place in the grand final, when they took on Parkside in last weekend’s preliminary final. 

Atlas already claimed the minor premiership on 45 points with Sandfire Bulls trailing on 29 followed by Parkside on 16 and Isaroos on 14. 

“This will be a great game to watch as both teams have scored a lot of goals this season,” North West Queensland Soccer mens chair Jason Howard said.

“The two teams have been competitive when playing each other and Sandfire may just have the upper hand with Shane (Tommy ) Dempsey coming back from injury. Pairing with Jayden Dempsey in the middle the Atlas midfield will have their work cut out for them. 

“For Atlas Andrew Frahm and Dean Kelley will be strong up front and Bulls will have to be smart in defence to control the pair,” he said. 

“These two teams love to attack and their defence can sometimes be a bit scrappy in the end. It will be a fast flowing game and I think it will come down to who can defend the best, mistake free to decide the winner.”

The mens B Grade final will kick off at 4.30pm when Concordia takes on Parkside in a tough game. 

This is the second year in a row for Concordia in the finals and Parkside are looking at getting back a title they have not won in more than four years. Parkside will be looking to their youth to step up this week and play some quality football. Both teams have some mature players and the likes of Jamie Stewart for Concordia and Jason Howard for Parkside will lead their teams. 

Jamie will control the midfield if Parkside let him and look for balls for his forwards to run onto. As for Jason Howard who has been strong in goals all year, he will be hard to beat as his experience will come into play. Darcy Celona will be looking to add to his goal tally as one of the runners for leading goal scorer. Last time these 2 teams met Concordia walked away in the final minutes of the semi final with 2 goals to nil.

Concordia FC president Danielle Slade credits coach Brendan Voss with Concordia’s success this season.  

“We’ve had consistently high level of training this year and even though we are probably down on players this season, we have been able to rely on the core team to give us every opportunity to get into finals,” Ms Slade said. 

“We have a lot of players that interchange well between positions and we will be relying on these players to get stuck in and get our passing game stepped up.

“We are very lucky that we have three players, Adrian Morsley, Alex White and Clay Regley, that can all interchange for keeper and all of them bring a high standard to the position as well as being valuable players on the field,” she said. 

Concordia Captain and centre midfield Jamie Stewart will be looking to strikers Stephen Cremonini and Nick Diamond to put away any opportunities in front of goal in this Grand Final.

Defenders Will Bulgarelli, Harry Schmidt, James Nieboer and Alex Lauer have been working well with our midfields Jake Mawn and Aaron Schaffer and we will be looking to get off some early passes to our fit and fast paced players wingers, David Scott and Mego Radwin.
